SiKanda’s Adopt’s Co-Direction Model to Strengthen Organizational Impact
Effective November 2025, Solidaridad Internacional Kanda A.C. (SiKanda) transitioned to a co-direction leadership model. For this, the Board and the executive leadership have appointed Janett García López, a member of the organization since 2017, alongside José Carlos León Vargas, formerly the Executive Director.
Prior to this role, Janett García served as Project Coordinator, Institutional Liaison, and, since 2021, Programs Director. Her work has focused on strengthening local civil society and authorities, and participated in inter-institutional groups oriented to meeting the goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Open Government principles. Her appointment aims to drive innovation and organizational growth to further SiKanda’s mission of sustainable development, community participation, and human rights.
By adopting this model, SiKanda joins other Mexican nonprofits that recognize the benefits of shared leadership and distributed decision-making to better navigate complex nonprofit context. Furthermore, Janett García’s appointment honors the legacy of women who have been instrumental to the association’s development since its founding.
As Co-Director, Janett will continue to supervise the programs and operations, while José Carlos will focus on governance and strategic alliances. Together, they will continue leading the development and sustainability of the organization. This transition evolves SiKanda’s leadership in synergy with the Board to prepare for future growth. We remain grateful for the trust of our allies and look forward to our continued collaboration as we work for a more equitable world.
