Each child and adolescent (NNA) has the right to his or her physical and personal integrity, to the protection from all forms of violence, and to live a life free of mistreatment, abuse and violence. Without exception.

As part of the commitment of Solidaridad Internacional Kanda A.C. (SiKanda) to work with children and adolescents, particularly those in vulnerable situations, during 2020 the organization undertook the task of updating and redesigning its Policy for Work with Children and Adolescents, as well as its Code of Conduct, which is applicable to any person, part of the staff, internsor volunteer, donor, partner or supplier, who collaborates with SiKanda and comes into contact with children and adolescents (NNA).

The result is a document and a series of guidelines that aim to create a safe, harmonious and positive environment for the children and adolescents with whom SiKanda works, while protecting their rights and providing clear guidelines for staff, volunteers and organization partners.

To carry out the SiKanda Policy of Protection for Children and Adolescents, the organization participated in the workshop “”Determining the Context of Risk in Child Protection Matters”” at the Australian Embassy in Mexico, facilitated by the Manager of the Child Protection Policy at the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). Likewise, a process of reflection and learning began with the SiKanda staff that included four workshops on the Rights of Children and Adolescents and the participatory design of the final document.

Working in contexts where people face significant degrees of marginalization and/or discrimination and violence, putting them in a situation of vulnerability, implies a high level of responsibility for SiKanda’s organization and staff. The Policy provides elements so that everyone who collaborates with the organization has tools to identify, report and channel Child Protection Incidents, as well as to know at all times the responsibility assumed with the well-being of Girls, Boys and Adolescents.

According to the context, the Policy will also have to adapt and change to cope with new challenges. SiKanda assumes this commitment, in the continuous search to ensure compliance with the Rights of the Children (NNA )and contribute to the construction of safe and dignified spaces that allow the full development of the girls, boys and adolescents with whom we work.

We share the Policy for easy consultation by our collaborators and partners, and with the intention that other organizations, institutions, schools and groups of people committed to the rights of children and adolescents can develop their own processes.
